  • Although ubisoft is a shit company, don’t think it’s the only one. Every game you bought on Steam, Origin and Epic aren’t your property either. You just bought the right to play their game for as long as they allow you to.

If you truly want to own your products, buy on GoG (you will get the offline installer as a download) or pirate. Because when you pirate, you have more rights and benifits than a paying customer.

Companies don’t even care anymore, it’s just a money grab with the newest bug simulator. As soon as the first purchase bubble ended, the project is abandoned and people are stuck with a piece of junk they do not even own.

In the exceptional case a dev truly delivers, like indie studios or Larian studio, the game dev world goes mental as it shows how corrupt and fucked up they are.

Support the few proper devs, pirate the rest. I pirate everything these days and when the game is good I’ll buy it.

  • This is the opposite of hangouts with my friends. Why would you come by car, you cannot drink then. All my friends come by bike. Cycling while drunk is no issue, as long as there’s proper cycling infrastructure like in The Netherlands where I live. Sometimes there’s someone stupid enough to come by car, they have to pay 7 euros per hour parking fees and have to stay sober all night. But most of my friends don’t even have a car and live within 2km cycling distance. Others who live further away take the train.

  • You forgot some important aspects:

People will have to give you all their belongings. They will have nothing if they ever want to leave. This can be done by making them pay for the workshops, with levels each more expensive then the other, making them not wanting to give up since they are already this far in and makes them give you everything they have to reach the next level. They must do so, otherwise they won’t have true devotion and they will risk punishment and have fear of being expelled. Look at Scientology, NXIVM.

They need to break ties with friends and relatives. Isolate them, so they have no one to return to if they ever want to leave. True isolation, with only you to lead them. They cannot trust anyone else, they cannot trust themselves. Only you. Again, Scientology.

Reward and punish them, but haphazardly, you don’t want to be predictable. This way they will do anything to get rewarded and are super scared to be punished. Break them down mentally, then build them up again according to your strict plan. Controlling their food and sleep helps (deprive them). They will follow you blindly and give up everything. See the documentary Stolen Youth on Hulu.

What many cults do wrong, is not having a business plan. You need income, so make them work for something you can sell. See the documentary Wild Wild Country on Netflix, they did this perfectly. You have basically free labor so you can compete in many markets.

And don’t forget you need good propaganda. You need new members, they need to think everything is super happy and they will learn new things about themselves (they will, after you break them first). Have a PR division, don’t be scared to pay someone properly to do this. Look at NXIVM, Scientology.

There’s a documentary about NXIVM called:

    • The Vow

    Documentaries listed above:

    • Wild Wild Country
    • Stolen youth (this one was heavy on me)

    Other documentaries to watch:

    • Love has won, the cult of mother God (this one is really fucked up)
    • The way down
    • Escaping utopia
    • Raël
    • The deep end
    • Breath of fire
    • The program
    • Escaping twin flames
    • Kumaré
    • Prophet’s prey

  • So, all I have is your bias story to go on, (sorry but there’s no objectivity to pull from a one sided story) but if you’re right, it sounds like this “friend” has something resembling a narcicistic personality disorder or something like it. If that’s true, it’s something to worry about. People with a condition like this tend to lure you in with kindness, force you to do stuff for them with the so called “kindness” as leverage, but at the same time destroying you by feeding negativity to you and the people around you about you, to maintain control over you by playing with you insecurities. And with “you”, I mean your sister in this case. Your sister will just be a pawn in their game to get status, attention, control, which will result in your sister getting hurt a lot and them moving on onto another victim.

But there’s a chance this is all wrong, again, I’m basing it only on your story. I don’t know if you are seeing everything which is happening clearly. Cases like this are always very difficult.

Maybe you can advice your sister not to get too dependent and attached on this “friend” and to be careful. And be there for her when it goes south. Don’t judge her, she’s a victim. Be supportive. Other than that, I doubt there’s anything you can do. It’s something which will have to play out as long as your sister isn’t ready to take her distance. It will be a hard life lesson, but a valuable one. Prep her with your insight, let her make the choice.

    That’s my advice.

  • Even if it’s opt in, they make it a choice between 2 evils. Like Microsoft. I booted my pc with windows 11, which updated against my will from win10, without my consent. Last week I got a screen asking me whether I wanted personalized or non personalized ads. I DON’T WANT FUCKING ADS! I fucking paid for it. But that’s not an option. “hi! I’m going to rape you. Would you like lube, or no lube?” The fucking dystopia we live in…

  • Back in the day, I did this with an entire discography while I was on holiday (left pc on for downloading, forgot winamp was still playing as my amp was off). When I got back, I was the top Air listener on LastFM (kept track of listened songs) by far. I held the title for many years until I removed my account.

  • People may die, but CEO’s have feelings too! How would you feel if you only earn 200mljn instead of 210. I don’t get it why no one ever takes the side of big companies and always look at people suffering by these companies. Oh wait, no, that’s not true, most American citizens indeed voted in favor of big companies and CEO’s at the cost of the general public. Never mind then.

  • That’s what ups are for.

When I was in the navy, when the ventilation would go out there’s a fire somewhere (real or excersize). There’s a fan next to your head in your bed (annoying AF). When it would go out, you’d wake up in fear, jump out of bed and put on your clothes asap before the fire will be notified over speakers. After 5 months at sea, I couldn’t sleep without a fan next to me. Waking up in fear multiple times every night. Luckily that’s all over now. Now I can’t sleep because the world is so fucked up.
