Without any hate speech or whatever. What is now WOKE that was once PC and vice versa?
No.
PC was not using offensive language that’s degrading to traditionally disadvantaged groups
Woke a African American word used back in the 30’s to describe the understanding of the racial bias inherent in the systems of America.
Both are completely misused and misunderstood by Republicans and to use anti-x to mean “I want to remain a complete asshole”.
You’re right, but in the way Republicans/the right uses them, they are identical.
Every few years they change up the terminology. After PC it became SJW. Then it became CRT. Then woke. Now it’s transitioning to DEI. In a few years they’ll change to a new term.
But, to them it all means the same thing “anything supporting non-white people, lgbtq people, and/or women.”
Yes, they’re the same thing.
As others have noted, the original definitions and origins were different. However, both terms came to be appropriated by right wing politics to mean (generously) “too liberal” or (more realistically) “associated with non-white people and/or women”.
When right wingers use terms like PC, woke, DEI, CRT, and so on, it’s a dog whistle (really a fog horn) that means “anyone who isn’t a white cishet Christian man”
Yes, and it was “bleeding heart” before that.
The reason this insult has such staying power is because it’s apt. Reactionaries are correct when they say liberals by in large don’t really care about minorities or the disadvantaged, they just use them for political power.
The mistake is in thinking that liberals represent the left.
Yeah - it’s always been just a weird way to try to tie a negative connotation to “cares about other human beings and doesn’t want to hurt their feelings unnecessarily.”
You’re confusing fiscally liberal with left wing liberal. They’re completely different beasts.
It’s political correctness expanded to also care about how people talk about gender issues and such. That’s all. And it’s so hilarious to see people feel threatened by such an inoffensive idea as ‘maybe respect people and how they want to be addressed or referred to.’
I thought one would call someone being “PC” , “Woke”, as ment to be derogatory.
Like the left saying that they are PC. But the right calling it Woke to defame any of those actions…
