Welcome back, I’ve been here the whole time and currently it seems a bit more toxic and hostile than when RIF shut down, I feel there are a couple more contrarians now than before but it hasn’t been a steady decline. There has always been the odd jerk and troll on this site. I would say the time Lemmy was most wholesome when !cat@lemmy.world flooded the front page with black cats, it was such a cute problem for us to have. Anyone else remember that?

Like others I’d say it’s cyclical month to month. This year there’s daily doom in the news with US politics. If you want to avoid that then block !news@lemmy.world, !politics@lemmy.world, !usa@midwest.social, and other news and politics if it fills up with Trump posts. 2024 was a lot more hopeful and I think that reflected in the average user’s demeanor even if there was bothsidesism, Gaza stuff, Ukraine stuff and Trumpism stuff. You’ll be informed of important developments as Trump stuff leaks out on occasion but you don’t need to be constantly engaged. Also if you do curate your All/Local feed then maybe some new communities sprung up that need pruning to fit your desired vibe.

Also: If you see a crapton of comments on a post with low votes then you know best to turn and run from the thread where most of the comments are.

Maybe as a Christmas gift to myself. My current one is an EIE pro that came with my guitar second hand. The linux “driver” only sort of works.

If you want to delay your switch to Linux, there are scripts to enroll in the ESU, but unfortunately the local account script stopped working on the one I used. Have not tested massgravel’s. Other options are to get Win 10 LTSC, or keep your system disconnected from the Internet.

An aside: My main desktop is Linux but I am currently trying Winboat to get the last piece of my hardware dependence off (my 20 year old DAC and rocksmith 2014) to work. Then, I can finally nuke Windows off of my secondary laptop because I’m sure as hell not giving it Win 11.

The penalty of doing it wrong needs to be higher than the cost of doing jt right.

I don’t get it? Why can’t car companies just release software updates that get deployed with the regular service interval, like once every year or two? That way the repair service or dealership will be close by if problems arise.

It’s the transferable virtual deeds being sold that are the scam. I could sell you a virtual deed to the Golden Gate Bridge right now, you could buy it but it doesn’t really mean anything.

Character ideas: The KDE Konqi, Katie and the whole host of dragons (Yoshi style). Xenia the Fox alternate Linux mascot. Lemmy and Mastodon mascots.

Provisional name idea: Smashtest (like Minetest until they figured out to call themselves Luanti).

• Smart Home (Home Assistant themed),
• GRUB (a few traversable lines or options)
• GRUB rescue (one line, Final Destination style)
• Rapid Coding (a DK falls-style scrolling map)
• vim (a close quarters map similar to the Game & Watch map, optionally with walls as the characters are “stuck in vim”)
• i3 (a pre-made map styled in a tiling window way, or perhaps dynamically splits the stage during battle)
• compiz (do whatever you want as long as it looks cool, wobbly, wavy, cubey or 3d-like)
• Hannah Montana Linux or Biebian (without a picture of the person in question but the colour scheme and the shape of stage elements would highly imply it’s those distributions)
• Blender 3D interface
• FreeCAD animated assembly

Special Move ideas (that can work with most characters):

• Update (a small rest/vulnerable period followed by a buff)
• Mailing List (a beam of emails)
• Harden/Vulnerability Patch (could paint/plaster offensive move, or it could be a curl up defensive move or roll around like yoshi/sonic/jigglypuff etc.
• Release Candidate (powerful offensive move with some drawback or self damage)

Your game doesn’t have to have every single element FOSS-themed, as it might make it feel too nerdy, but if you were short on this kind of idea and wanted some, here you go.
