5 days agoYup, bitrot is a thing. Got a few video files from around 2000 only one player can still open and even then there are lots of artifacts. Moving the files periodically helps to reduce risk. Better is to use a file system\software that prevents that. I’m using snapraid on my server now and do regular scrubs.
DMZs on consumer hardware aren’t a good idea either. Recently checked my DSL router out of curiosity after reading a post about it . Seems what consumer hardware often does in a DMZ is dropping the firewall to the outside completely for the affected devices while not isolating the rest of the network from them.
