Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, is doing something unexpected for one of the biggest names in tech: casually building web apps with AI coding assistants.
“I wish I could do more,” Pichai said on Wednesday at Bloomberg Tech in San Francisco.
“I’ve just been messing around — either with Cursor or I vibe coded with Replit — trying to build a custom webpage with all the sources of information I wanted in one place. I could type a location and get it all,” Pichai said.

Replace the CEO with AI
We don’t even need complex AI to replace CEOs
One ruby script can easily:
- Lie to the public
- Tell shareholders to buy more stock
- Shift blame when a product horrifically disfigures someone
- Lobby Congress
- Lay off thousands of employees and take a fat bonus
Sounds like an appropriate use of time for a person in his position. AI obsolete the CEO, please.
So he needed a massive AI to replicate the yahoo.com landing page from 1997.
Maybe he can write some more Google products that he can then turn around and cancel.
Something I hadn’t considered. AI coding is going to convince managers that they were right all along — that coding can be quick and easy and engineers are just lazy.
Just ask the product managers at Sonos!
