Today’s game is some more of the Oblivion Remaster. I went ahead and finally put the Arena quest on hold for a minute to finally go help close the first Oblivion Gate.

The remastered oblivion gate design is really cool. It has this depth thing going on with it and I tried jumping into it like the Mario 64 paintings despite knowing that they haven’t changed the way they work. I wonder if it would be possible to make a mod that makes it work in that way or if it would run into engine limitations.

After the gate though, i went back and did the Arena some more. Because god forbid my character do anything other than that for longer than a day. When i entered the Arena the first thing i’m met with is this guy half-naked and practicing archery. Not the outfit i’d pick for Arena battles, but more power to him I guess.

After the arena battle i had to go to an inn to sleep and level up, and as soon as i stepped into the market section i was greeted by this swarm of NPCs, giving me the usual Oblivion treatment. They all were talking to eachother. I heard one of them mention a side quest i did where i discovered this guy’s lineage as a Vampire. It was kind of at that moment it clicked for me why everybody really likes this dialog system despite being clunky, because that’s really fucking cool. I hadn’t played much of this game in the past, namely because i always had issues with the controller. I had also done a mostly complete playthrough but i was too young to really appreciate this kind of detail behind it.

One last thing i wanted to show off was these stained glass windows on the Oblivion plane. It’s a similar detail too the Gate in the sewers from my last post, but i love the way the lighting is done. It’s really soft and feels like a natural evolution of the Oblivion Art Style.

So much nostalgia. I still remember my roleplaying character- An imperial arena fighter dude wearing nothing but pants, fistfighting everyone from mudcrabs to minotaurs, then it was Altmer mage with Atronach sign, who was forced to delve into Ayleid ruins to loot mana crystals to cast spells… so much fun.

I might try the remaster once Im done with Veilguard
