Windows stopped including a codec to play DVDs a couple versions ago. what’s a good way of still playing them on Windows 10 or 11?

i own DVDs but I’m looking for software options that work. VLC doesn’t unless i get that missing codec, etc

edit: everyone is stopping that VLC can do it with no extra requirements. it didn’t work before but I’ll try again

VLC includes all codecs it needs internally to play DVD’s. If VLC is not playing DVD’s, there’s something else wrong with your system.

You might also try MPV player.

VLC should just work with everything needed to play DVDs. Like other commenters are saying there’s probably something else wrong if VLC isn’t working to play your DVDs.

VLC if you just want to watch it, MakeMKV/Handbrake if you want to rip it to a file.

VLC does have the codecs included, you’re likely just not opening it properly.
