OpenBoot at Sun and Apple had a ggo thing going for a while. Too bad they didn’t release it as open source. In theory you could deliver architecture-independent drivers that ship as firmware on device.

Alternative ROM market is fringe de la fringe, so there’s sufficient used hardware available. I bought my 7a for 320 eur new and my tablet for 400 eur new though, so the Google tax (or, GOS tax, rather) was moderate.

Buy used. The other phone vendors haven’t been offering the security hardware GOS needs, so far. It might change soon enough though.

Don’t wait. GOS just works.

Microsoft has no say what happens on my workstation, and never had any.
The GPU used to but they dropped ROCm support for Radeon V and VII some time ago. Have to look at that Strix Halo/AI Max thing I guess.
Is Radeon V with 8 GB HBM worth using today?

What is the problem with SEPA? It just works.

I use hardware TAN generators and browsers. The cards support NFC payments. My banking apps run fine on Lineage OS and GrapheneOS.

I only run free/libre Android forks, so I don’t care.

Same thing with ADHD. There are at least two distinct subtypes, but likely more.

Why should one give YouTube a second chance, though?

Technically you don’t need a smartphone. A tethered mobile device would do. For just cellular calls, there are dumbphones. That Youtube does or doesn’t work doesn’t concern me. They always ask to login on VPN which is always on for me. Thanks, just no.
There are tablets with docks available. E.g. I could use Pixel tablet with the hub for that, even with privacy-supporting GrapheneOS.
