It’s the HDMI forum’s fault, they won’t allow amd to add HDMI 2.1 support to their Linux driver. It’s very possible that the hardware itself does support 2.1.
Yes, now I remember hearing this news, it is an incredibly shitty state of affairs that user functionality is sacrificed for some imaginary potential harm to the interests of big media companies.
If only some TV makers would break rank and add DisplayPort inputs to break HDMI’s monopoly in that space and make them more humble……
